We get so caught up in our kids success, that we often forget the real importance of failure and making mistakes. It needs to be just as big a part of our parenting and teaching as the good grades and the athletic prowess and the social popularity. This quote, while clearly geared to adults, speaks directly to this parenting requirement.
This might well be worth having up somewhere in the house where it reminds everyone of the importance of mistakes.
When you think about it, making mistakes is a big part of what childhood is all about– so much better to make the mistakes and learn the lessons when the stakes aren’t so high as it is later in life when they are.
