It always seems to be about Mom, so I’m thrilled to show you something for Dad!! I could have easily put this in the kids activities category. But it’s so much better to think of it as a birthday gift that guarantees the child will spend some great time with Dad. Even better if it’s a gift from that Dad.
This might best be kept to a gift within the family like father to son or daughter, or uncle to brother. But of course if you know the other family well and know all will appreciate it, go for it.
The author, Ken Denmead, is an engineer, father of two, and editor of the apparently very popular GeekDad blog on wired.com. As per Amazon’s write-up, this book is the
“ultimate, idea-packed guide guaranteed to help dads and kids alike enjoy the magic of playtime together and tap into the infinite possibility of their imagination.” [Here's the line that got me] “Brimming with endlessly fun and futuristic tidbits on everything from gaming to gadgets, GeekDad helps every tech-savvy father unleash his inner kid-and bond with the next generation of brainiacs.”
Anything that provides together time with dads, gets kids using their brains, focuses on skills that can help in life (like being tech-savvy), and provides an alternative to TV and video games, is gonna be high on my list. And the price is reasonable (mouse-over the graphic to see it at Amazon).
Thinking outside the toy box when it comes to kids birthday gifts is, in my opinion, the best way to go. It’s the kind of thinking that’s behind most of our ideas for kids birthday gifts on our website – take a look!
