This is one of the best ideas out there for a fun and unique cooking kids party theme. Crepes! Thanks to kids-cooking-activities.com for the idea and recipes.
I don’t think I’ve ever met a kid that didn’t like pancakes, and crepes are nothing more than thin, fancified pancakes. All it takes to make are the usual suspects- eggs, milk, flour, salt, sugar and a little oil for the cooking. No ingredients the kids can’t manage. They’ll get to measure, break eggs, stir, and have fun doing it. No cooking party should be very big (unless you have a restaurant sized kitchen), but depending on your number you can have 2 or even three groups of kids putting batter together so everybody gets to partipicape. You’ll find the actual recipe in the article referenced above.
Making the crepes on your stove isn’t difficult, but probably is best done by an adult. And that adult might want to practice ahead of time to get a feel for the right batter consistency (pretty runny) and flipping. A cast iron frying pan definitely works best for crepes.
While an adult or two are making the crepes, the kids can be making crepe sauces – recipes for strawberry and chocolate sauce are contained in the article referenced above. I’d definitely add in having them make the whipped cream for their crepes. Instead of sauces that require cooking (maybe you’d make these ahead of time), have the kids wash and cut up fresh fruit for their crepes- strawberries, kiwis, bananas, even mangoes and papayas.
Since it’s a cooking party, perhaps you’d like to have the kids set their own table, using the placemats they’ve made (see yesterday’s blog post). If you need yet another activity, have them try their hands at fancy napkin folding. You gotta’ love the web where you can find everything- even instructions for folding napkins.
This is a simple kids party theme to pull off, and the kids will be quite proud of their crepe creations.
We’ll be posting other easy and fun kids party themes on our website for your future use.
