Thrill your princess and all her guests with a coronation ceremony at your princess birthday party. The ceremony becomes one of your kids party games and you can also get everyone involved in the preparation for the ceremony with a related craft activity for them to have fun with. Best not to let the birthday princess in on the plan- it will make a wonderful surprise at her party!
First, you need a throne. Any preferably high backed (non-upholstered) chair will do – ladder backs are about perfect. The kids can decorate the throne- the unsuspecting birthday princess can be told it’s for her to sit in at cake time (and you can use it then too). First, have them make simple tissue paper flowers to decorate the throne- use long twist ties at the flowers’ center to attach them to the chair. Provide colorful crepe paper, ribbon, stick on bows, and some helium balloons to tie onto the back of the chair.
Contractor’s pink paper from Home Depot or any well stocked hardware store will work well for your ‘red carpet’.Like a wedding processional, have each princess guest strut her princess costume down the red carpet. You can give each girl a handful of metallic confetti to toss on the red carpet for the coronation. Have the girls form a line on either side of the carpet after they’ve ‘walked’. Keep the carpet pretty short, as in short attention spans. And of course, you need coronation music.
Needless to say, you are prepared with a marvelous crown from either the party store or one you’ve made from paper with fake jewels etc.
The serving of your cake would make a terrific follow-up to your coronation.
You can be sure this is a kids party game they’ve never had occasion to do before in their short little lives, and they’ll think it’s just the neatest thing. The pictures should be priceless.
