Birthday Party Games- Nail Art

Nail ArtAny spa party for girls means the girls are old enough to enjoy creating fingernail art. Little girls at their princess birthday party will have to be “done” by parents or older children.  Either way, nail art is way easier to create than it looks.

You’ll need various nail polish colors plus a protective top coat and lots of bamboo skewers. Paper towels to protect the work surface, polish remover and cotton balls or pads for the goof-ups, and a couple of hair dryers to speed the process and reduce the number of those goof-ups. Have some music going in the background.

I recommend doing you own nails with decorations before the party. That way, the kids can get ideas about what to do. Just google ‘creating nail art’  and you’ll find ideas and videos – just don’t think you need to invest in fancy brushes etc. The cheap skewers from the grocery store work just fine for kid purposes.

In short, once you’ve applied a color coat to the nails, it’s time to get creative. Use either the flat or pointed end of the skewers to dip into different colors of polish and create small or large dots on the nails. 4-5 dots circling a center dot, and you’ve got a flower. Using the pointed end of the skewer, you can create straight or curved line designs, such as stripes. Combine these with dots for even more intricate abstract art. Give them all a couple of sheets of paper to practice on. Finish with a protective top coat and then the hair dryer.

For a spa party for girls in their preteens or teens, they can take turns doing each others nails and have the artist do the drying with the hair dryer as well as create the nail art. Then they’ll switch roles. It will all take quite a while, but then again nobody’s in a hurry for a spa treatment to end. For the littler princesses, get some helpers like other parents or older kids as they’ll get antsy if it all takes too long.

Adding in the art to getting their nails done makes this a fun birthday party game for both the big and the little girls.
