Birthday Party Games- Hula Hoops

Kids party games that they’ve never played before are always the best. It makes your party new and different from all the others they go to. Since hula hoops seem to have fallen out of fashion, they’ll be new and different to most all of your guests. That makes them a good outdoor game choice – especially for all girl birthday parties. I’d think hula hoops would be a hit with  girls age 9 to 10; the younger ones might find it too much of a challenge.

You can buy them relatively inexpensively, so in addition to being a game, they can be a take home! Consider giving them to the girls for the games all decked out with pretty ribbon!

Your first game can be the standard hula hoop ‘twist’ around the waist. If they’ve never done it before, be prepared to demonstrate! If you need a refresher yourself, look for a YouTube video how to (google ‘how to hula hoop’ and look for the YouTube entries). Not to worry if you’re no expert- what better start for a silly game than to get them laughing at your efforts and anxious to show how much better they can do it!

When they get the hang of it, the next step is obviously a contest – who can keep it going longest. Have a few really inexpensive prizes (like pencils) for awards.

This last hula hoop game is a riot. Have the girls sort themselves out into two teams, or you do it by hair color, sock color, pick a number, whatever. Each team forms a line, and they hold hands. One end gets a hula hoop over the unattached arm. They need to move the hula hoop to the other end of the line, and back again if the lines are short, WITHOUT letting go of each others hands. Not so easy but oh so much fun!!
