Birthday Party Favors- Fishing for Goodies

FishingEvery church fair or carnival themed event you go to with your young preschool kids includes a fishing game. So you know it works and that the kids enjoy it. Well, it’s easier that you think to include a fishing game in your at-home kids birthday party that also takes care of your kids party favors.

All you need is a fishing rod (a dowel with a string attached and a good gripping clothespin), an inside doorway, a cheap tension curtain rod that will fit snugly in that doorway, some cute fabric and either iron on tape, staples, or if it’s your thing, your sewing machine. You do NOT need to sew to make this. Check it out here for the basic idea as well as full blown sewing instructions. For non-sewers, just use iron on tape or staples to create the rod pocket at the top to hold up your curtain. Easy.

Buy your ‘goodies’ that the kids will fish for- candy and cheap plastic toys are the usual but with a little thinking you can do better. How about decks of cards, packs of stickers, Hot Wheels, silly putty – stuff they can actually play with. Tie a string securely around each ‘ goodie’ so you can clip it to the loop on the fishing rod string with the clothespin. Or, clip a small piece of paper with a number on it to each fishing pole, and have the goodies all gift wrapped on a table with those numbers on them for the kids to then find and keep.

With a helper hiding behind your curtain and attaching the gifts or the numbers, you’ve now got yourself another kids party game to keep them engaged and you’ve taken care of your kids party favors as well.
