How about real-looking large scale animals that stand up and great your guests at your next jungle or safari party? That would be pretty cool- eh? You can make them with your home printer or a little help from your local printer OR using purchased posters.
The party supply merchant Shindigz.com has a ‘jungle quest kit’ comprised of various stand-up cardboard cutouts of animals and palm trees and grass, that all together will run you several hundred dollars. The animal cutouts are (as of this writing) $30 apiece, and frankly so large as to be intimidating to little kids.
So instead, find some high resolution ( i.e. 2700×1800px for a 20×30 blow up) animal images that you would like for your cardboard cut outs. Check for photos at Microsoft Word’s clip art at Office On Line. Google images is another source for royalty free images. There’s also the stock photo vendors whose photos come in various resolutions at various prices where a little digging will turn up affordable photos with sufficient resolution.
If you’ve got an HP printer with this capability or a Photo Shop type graphics program, print your own blow-up of your photos. If not, check with your local print shop and the online poster printing guys for the best prices and get your photos printed out.
Or, look online for animal posters at a reasonable price and use those photos instead of the above.
Now, get your hands on a large cardboard box or two; a good source is usually your local appliance store. Mount your photo/poster on the cardboard with rubber cement and then trim to the animals’ outline with a good sharp mat knife. Make a triangular stand-up back for the cutout, and you’ve got yourself a jungle animal for your safari party.
Complete the scene with tall grass cutouts (green construction paper mounted to cardboard and then cut out). Do this part with your birthday child and have some fun together.
We’re always looking for inexpensive ways to have a great birthday party decorations, and share them all with you on our website.
