MaryLea over at pinkandgreenmama.com seems to be a never ending source of creative craft ideas, so very many of which are adaptable to a birthday party craft activity. If you’re at all into doing artsy- crafty things with your kids, her blog is a MUST for you to follow!
I loved her Japanese Fish Kite project, and it makes a good birthday party craft activity. It’s fun to make, they take it home and then the whole family can enjoy it swinging in the wind. It’s a perfect craft if your party theme is animals or it’s a jungle party.
All you’ll need for this craft activity is white drawing paper (probably makes sense to buy one big pad that will get used at home later for drawing), markers, watercolors or kid paints, glue sticks, masking tape and yarn. You’ll find very complete and illustrated instructions at the website via the link above.
As with so many creative projects, it’s always a help to the kids if you make one or two of these Japanese Fish Kites ahead of time for everyone to see how they look, how they work, and to get ideas for their own creations based on yours.
Leave the still flat paper kites to dry for a while before having the kids put the kites together. If your party is outdoors, hang the finished kites (labeled with each artists name) where everyone can enjoy them and where they can catch some breeze. Or, let the kids make their own breeze by running around with their kites before you hang them in the trees.
It’s not always so easy to find birthday party crafts that will appeal to the boys as well as the girls, but this one will.
