Birthday Party Games for 6 year olds
6 year old birthday party games
Each of the birthday party games packages on this website have been created to meet the needs of a specific age group.
A successful kids birthday party for 6 year olds absolutely requires that your Birthday Party Games be geared to
- their developmental level
- their ability, and
- their interests
While every group of kids is different and every kid is unique, there are some real benchmarks to help you make the right choices for your 6 year olds birthday party games.
-
Generally in 1st grade, 6 year olds are beginning and most likely pretty shaky readers, so keep any reading component of your party to the bare minimum. Following instructions isn't yet their best skill. Attention spans are, at best, short. And just to make your job as host a bit more challenging, their social skills are pretty rough.
-
Your birthday party games MUST keep them engaged or you're asking for trouble. Don't expect them to do any one thing for more than about 15 minutes- which pretty much eliminates the "take them somewhere to do something" birthday party. Because doing the one thing that such places generally provide is too much of that one thing. Ever sit (HA!!) through a 2 hour movie with a bunch of 6 year old boys? And how many bags of popcorn and trips to the loo did that take?
-
At the tender age of 6, anything they've never done before will get them interested, PROVIDED it's not threatening or perceived as too scary or difficult such that fear of failure becomes an issue.
-
Once they're interested, keep them totally involved by providing simple and short challenges- mental and/or physical. But DON'T ask them to "wait for their turn" to participate: your games must include all the children almost all of the time.
-
Big groups don't work as well as small ones with a bunch of 6 year olds, both in terms of the total size of your party and the number of kids participating in any one activity at a time. The larger the group, the less control you'll have over the behaviors that the group dynamics may produce.
-
Any challenges your party games provide should NOT be performed individually as this can be very threatening to some kids, and lead to difficult behavior you don't want to have to deal with. Even Charades can scare some young kids out of their socks because they have to 'perform' in front of their friends.
Don't be intimidated by all the "'dont's"; there's still lots of "do's" to make a very successful and memorable birthday party for your 6 year old.
The Survivor Party incorporates all these recommendations for birthday party games for 6 year olds and they love it!
- Each of the 13 short, silly but challenging Survivor games included in the party package has very simple instructions that you present as the 'MC' (rather than as the parent), and that's all part of the fun. You can expect alot of joyful noise.
- They've perhaps not seen the Survivor show, but you can bet they've heard about it and are very intrigued, giving you an automatic leg-up on keeping them interested in your party activities. Retain that excitement as your advantage in keeping them tuned in: hold the sugar until the end.
- All the Survivor games in the package are played in teams, with each team focused on winning each game, keeping the group dynamics out of the trouble zone.
Like all the Birthday Party Games Lady party packages, the Survivor Game is downloadable, very quick to put together, yet cheaper than taking them all to movies and buying all that candy and popcorn and soda. No sugar high to deal with either! It's designed for busy parents that don't want to outsource their 6 year olds birthday party but don't necessarily have the time to put a unique and memorable party together on their own.
You can see all 5 of the birthday party games packages available for kids ages 6 through 13 on the Birthday Party Games Lady homepage.
